New Course Record at Boxing Day 4 Mile

December 28th, 2009 by Will

Hey guys.

I had a wicked race the other day at the 4 mile race.  Just to get it straight I didn’t eat Pasta Carbonara for Xmas dinner, I did have the full turkey and lots of Chocolate:)

I do it every year. Last year I ran 19:30, but this year I wanted to go faster.  If I broke 19mins I was happy, that’s 4:45 miles (30min 10k pace) The course record is set at 18:38 on the trophy which I thought was awesome…Grenville Tuck ran that from 1974! He also went on to run 28:30 10k, so to get near that was good going!

I was stoked to come in at 18:32. The course wasn’t 4 miles it was 6.38k’s.  So just short but I was really happy with it.  It was a nice reward for hard work so far this year.  The course is still the same so doesn’t really matter.

People question why I took this race seriously.  I think its a great little marker for myself each year.  If I can go 1min faster then 2008…that’s good going! It also works off the turkey and also makes sure I don’t let myself go too much at Xmas!

New Years Eve 10k coming up…I scouted the course the other day.  It was windy as hell but I think I can get a clean Sub 30min as long as some pace makes me!

I’m looking at this a lot this year!
