Looking back and forward…

I hope you all had an awesome Xmas and have a great, prosperous New Year. I can’t wait to get 2014 started. Got a few new exciting changes for the next season and I’m convinced it’s going to be some of the best years I’ve had coming up!

Lots of change in my world recently. Clare and I recently welcomed Freddy into the World. He was born in the evening of November 19th and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Clare was amazing and after a long, long labour it was such a relief to finally pull him out and meet him. I don’t think it’s really sunk in yet, I spent 2.5 weeks with him before I unfortunately went on a training camp but I’m really excited about spending some more time with him over New Year. As amazing as it is, life must go on and I’ve got a job to do. It was hard to convince Clare that I was indeed going to Fuerteventura for a super intense two week training camp and not just for a jolly!

Freddy Clarke

As usual Fuerteventura was a brilliant Christmas camp ran by Gav Smith of Loughborough Uni Tri. Mark Threlfall and I mostly did our own long distance thing but we mixed in a lot with the University weapons as well as good friends Laurent Vidal and Andrea Hewitt.  I was really impressed with everyones high spirits and their commitment to hard work the whole camp. First week we completed 40hrs training. 22k swimming, 22hr riding, 8 hour running and 2 gym sessions and the final 6 days kept that similar routine. It’s hard earned mileage out there because of un-forgiving terrain and high winds in addition, however certainly makes you strong. I was happy with the numbers and how I pulled up each day and think it’s just what the doctor ordered to kick start 2014.

Now it’s time to back it off a little and absorb that hard work a before another big push towards the South Africa 70.3 at the end of January. It’s not a important goal (only got so long to get in shape for this one) however it’s nice to do a race, learn a bit more and have some fun and if I’m good pick up some pocket money. Hidden agenda though is it’s an excuse to stay out in Stellenbosch with the family for a month or so 😉

Happy New Year everyone!
