Back on Tour
June 4th, 2010 by Will
I just arrived in Madrid. Probably the road trip that I have most been looking forward to. After this battle I will be heading directly to Des Moines for the big money race. Madrid is my priority though…I will give all I have here and then for Des Moines I will give what I have left in the bank…if I finish 10th then it would still have been well worth my while. ($10,000 last time)
I’m rooming with Olly Freeman again which should make my trip fun. He will be many of the ones to watch in this race.
The start list is stacked as usual. However in the top 10 we do have a little bit of relief as some of the big hitters won’t be starting. Bevan Docherty, Kris Gemmell, Simon Whitfield, Laurent Vidal, Brad Kahlefldt, Tim Don and many others are all saving their legs for Des Moines…Smart!
I have had a bit of havoc with the old back this week. I had an amazing weeks training from the Grand Prix in Dunkerque. Was on fire, backed up each day and put in a lot of intensity…too much I think.
I think my ride on Saturday triggered it. The VO2 max hard swim in morning, then a cold wet bike ride hunched over my handle bars straight upright and into a run off with Stu Hayes where I was running 62-64 pace for 400’s and K reps far too fast.
On the Sunday my back siezed up after 10mins of running and I could barely put my trousers on let alone run! With the awesome physio support of John Dennis and Emma Deakin though x2 per day. I will/should be fine by the weekend and I missed just one days easy training. That’s enough if you ask me…I feel for anyone who has to take a 6week break after a stress fracture!
I look forward to the weekend; confidence is on a high at the moment. I hope I can convert! I have tried something new this week for my build up so will be interesting to see how it works.
