All change here!

October 20th, 2009 by Will

I mentioned a month or so ago that Loughborough was changing.

Will Clarke

It’s been a controversial decision I guess…I just read 220 Magazines release all about it.  Well, my Dad told me about it! (Jodie Stimpson is not very happy!)

I had an fantastic season coached by Rick Velati, incredibly consistent, and although I was obviously overshadowed by a fantastic Brownlee, It was my best season so far and I’m proud of that.  I thoroughly enjoyed every week being coached by Rick.  It was short (April to September) but in that time I learnt a heck of a lot about myself and also what it takes:) He was incredibly meticulous in his coaching and a lot of attention to detail…too bad that we didn’t get a winter to work together.  Who knows how my form would have been.

Anyway, due to the restructuring. Rick has been appointed a new job as ‘Tri Gold’ coach and he is in charge of nurturing excellent talent picked runners and making them into World Class Triathletes.  He is very excited by this, they are very lucky to have such a good coach and a great guy working with them.

As for myself, I am now coached by Ben Bright with Joel Filliol’s support.  The squad has restructured in Loughborough, now we have a squad of 8 athletes including Liz Blatchford, Hollie Avil, Aaron Harris, Mark Threlfall, Richie Nichols, Matt Sharp and Abbie Thorrington.

For 3/4 of the week we will all be training together, however we all know that some can handle more work then others and there will be a certain amount of training done on our own or elsewhere, we are all at different levels.

The reason behind the restructuring was to have more control over what everyone is doing, so we lead one programme which helps with organisation and means we can utilise our support properly.  I can’t go into much depth about what we will be doing.  The support staff are aiming to run a ‘world leading programme’.  A Mr blabber Mouth like me has been told to shut up!

This is day 2.  Training is going bloody aweful! (I keep getting a ‘food bonk’ on most of my sessions) However it is really enjoyable working with the new squad, it’s a hard working environment and very motivating to be part of it.  It’s very early days yet… I don’t particularly like this part of the year, I’m usually get my ass kicked by the Winter Warriors (damn you lot) and feel very unfit and out of control, but if it carrys on like this I can see it being a very successful little squad.

Annual Break:) Some recent bits of media…OOPS!
