A 3 Day Break in Iceland.
March 18th, 2010 by Will
I have been in Iceland for the past 3 days. Was nice to travel without a bike bag! Very refreshing!
I won the trip at a 10k that I did in Hyde Park.  My friend Clayton organised the event and the first prize was an all expenses payed trip to Iceland so Clare and I took them up and went the day after the Inter-Counties XC.
I think I needed it. Â I am starting to realise that you don’t realise how tired you are till you are taken out of your routine. Â As soon as my head knew that I didn’t have any training for 2/3 days it conked out and I felt really tired and lethargic!
Didn’t stop me from doing the touristy thing though. We had a good time and took in some amazing sites.
We took a day trip on the first day…
The Geo-thermal hot pools
Nice view in the National Park
This was funny, the 12km road was closed….but it was part of our route! Our rubbish hire car finally made it over some huge pot holes and terrible driving conditions. Then we got to the flooded river. We took the risk and got across it. It was a nervous time though as we would have been in trouble if the engine had flooded! There is no insurance for this road, even in 4×4’s.
It was amazing to see the Geiser. One of the most amazing natural things I have seen I think!
On the way back home we saw a crater created from years of volcanic eruption.
