1st week down in OZ
December 6th, 2010 by Will
It’s been a good first week on the Gold Coast.
It is a long way to get here though, I’m not going to lie…that journey is a nightmare.
We finally got here 3 flights later and we were greeted by RAIN, lots of RAIN! It’s not really stopped since I’ve been here! We’ve literally not seen the sun once yet. It is though, still better then the UK!
We’ve been staying at Liz Blatchford and Glen’s house the past week till we get settled in so thanks to them for putting us up. The first week has been about finding a car, getting a house sorted, getting a phone set up and recovering from the jet lag.
Managed most of that! Were staying up in Biggera Waters. We forked out more then we’d have liked and got a place on the 8th floor, open plan apartment. It’s got a really nice 25m swimming pool and a BBQ area to entertain your friends that overlooks the ocean. Going to feel like a holiday…once my trainings done!
Clare and I have accidently stumbled upon the perfect sleeping pattern for Gold Coast. Going to bed at 8:30pm and waking up at around 5am! I tell you now it seems busier at that time in the morning then at 8:00am. We have a 2 x 10 lane 50m pools next to eachother here in Miami and they are usually FULL at 5:30am!
Highlights so far…Clare getting a lesson from a Queensland cockroach (they’re HUGE!)
Training wise I have just been relaxing into it. I’ve managed to catch up with some friends up here so that’s been awesome. Bit of a Triathlon mecca up here! I really think that it takes about 10 days to feel normal on this side of Australia. 1 day per time zone is the rule;)
Clare and I are now heading on our honeymoon! Round 2 here we come. As you know my last one got cancelled due to the injury so hope this one goes a bit smoother! We are driving from Brisbane to Cairns and I can’t wait. It’s a shame that I have to train during this one.
Hope you guys are not freezing back home.

p.s. Sorry for the lack of pictures. My MacBook is buggered.
