11th
September 12th, 2009 by Will
I tell you what. I finished the race with a tear in my eye… it was a 11th place, not my best but it was the last race of the year, and it felt like I was finally on top of things!

11th is not a stand out result, but to me. On that day, it was! I crossed the line feeling relieved after a really rounded race, I rode home thinking….”I can take these boys…just give me a great winter…I can do it!”
I finished 5th in the World Championships 2 years ago now, that was a great race for me, sounds great anyway, but I tell you now though my race yesterday was probably a best result I have ever had!
The sport has moved on…30:10’s have become 29:40’s, the swim all of a sudden is a lot faster and now we have a proper bike race on our hands!

I swam great, exiting the water in about 10th. I had so much power and freshness in my arms, I felt great the whole way through and came out in probably one of my best positions ever. Â I saw Gomez’s ass when I was wading towards T1 out the water…the first thought I had was…how do I do it! This guy swims 15:36 for 1500m and my PB is probably nearing 18:30! Great feeling!!! I felt pretty good on the bike and apart from the odd breakaway, we weren’t bothered about the odd guy getting away. I hit the run in about 5th place, I had good legs but not amazing legs and was pretty much hanging the whole way through the run, I ran in a group of 7 or so the whole way round, it was a good pace for me but in the end I didn’t really have much to give by the finish.
Alistair smashed it, he is EXTREMELY impressive this year….well deserved and an inspiration so…I guess…watch this space!
I will crack some pics up soon, maybe even some party ones!
Enjoy
